Defending Marriage is a Battle We Can Win!

Arlington, WA - June 22, 2009 - According to a June 17  CBS News/New York Times poll, 33 percent of respondents favor same-sex marriage. That represents a 9 point plunge since April.

In a Citizenlink.com press release, "Gary Schneeberger, vice president of media and public relations for Focus on the Family Action, said the new poll numbers could very well represent a backlash from Americans who have seen several New England states legalize gay marriage through their legislatures, not the vote of the people.

The poll results also seem to indicate that people are not relying solely on the mainstream news media to get their information on the issue of same-sex marriage.

'In reporting the results of its own poll, CBS used the word 'dip' to describe the 9 percent plunge in support for gay marriage,' Schneeberger said. 'In elections, it's considered a landslide when a candidate wins by 10 points. So to describe this as a 'dip' pretty clearly illustrates where CBS, at least, stands on this issue.' "

In the state of Washington, the Faith and Freedom Network asked the following question in April 2009: In your opinion, should homosexuals be allowed to marry? The results were as follows:
Yes...43%
No...50%
DK/NA...7%

It is time for all of America to rise up and defend the institution of marriage. As national trends and momentum are moving in the right direction, it is clearly evident that our efforts at Protect Marriage Washington to bring the issue before the voters of Washington in November via Referendum-71 are critical not just to Washington State, but to the rest of the nation as well.

Please continue to keep up the hard work gathering signatures and do all you can to financially support the R-71 petition drive!  Can we count on your donation today as we continue our drive to Preserve Marriage and Protect Children?

Sincerely,

Larry Stickney, Manager

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
