OVER 138,000 SIGNATURES TURNED IN TODAY!

Olympia, WA - Saturday, July 25, 2009 - We had a very good day at the Capitol in Olympia with over 138,000 R-71 signatures turned in!   The required number of signatures is 120,577.

The Secretary of State will begin the process of validating the signatures on Monday, which will take at least several days and possibly up to a couple of weeks.

We have high hopes, and it is our fervent prayer, that the number of signatures we brought in today will be sufficient to give the people of Washington State an opportunity to engage in the democratic process by voting to approve or reject SB5688

As many of our fellow citizens are beginning to understand, the passage of Senate Bill 5688, together with other domestic partnership laws in Washington, represent the most radical rewriting of the law in this state since the Code of Washington was first revised.

While the R-71 campaign has had just 68 days to raise the 120,577 valid signatures, tens of thousands of Washingtonians have now spoken in favor of bringing this before the people on November 4.

I am truly honored to have worked with the Protect Marriage Washington PAC board and the many of you who volunteered and gathered signatures with such enthusiasm and vigor.

May God bless all of you as we continue our efforts to preserve marriage and protect children!

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
