Vote to REJECT SB 5688 via R-71 in November!

September 25, 2009 - If you believe in traditional marriage, you will vote to REJECT REFERENDUM 71 when you receive your ballot in October. It is your chance to reject the Same-Sex Marriage Bill, SB 5688!

The wording is confusing to some because we all supported signing Referendum 71. We now need to make it very clear that we will be voting to REJECT  R-71/SB-5688 on the November ballot to preserve marriage and protect children.

Here is how R-71 will appear on your ballot: 

The legislature passed Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill 5688 concerning rights and responsibilities of state-registered domestic partners and voters have filed a sufficient referendum petition on this bill.

This bill would expand the rights, responsibilities, and obligations accorded state-registered same-sex and senior domestic partners to be equivalent to those of married spouses, except that a domestic partnership is not a marriage.

Should this bill be:

[X] Rejected

September 30 Ballot Issues Forum - Tacoma

The League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County and the Tacoma Public Library are co-sponsoring a Ballot Issues Forum on Wednesday September 30th from 7:00pm-8:30pm. The event will be held at the main Library in Downtown Tacoma.  They will be covering both state and local issues, including Referendum 71. Our good friend, attorney Steve O'Ban, will be representing Protect Marriage Washington at the Forum. If you live anywhere near the Tacoma area, please consider attending the forum and supporting our cause and our spokesman that evening!

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

 

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
