Referendum (71) Sunday and other campaign news!

Arlington, WA - June 19, 2009 - Exciting News from the R-71 campaign team! We have recorded a short video (under 4 minutes) that we will make available online as well as on DVD early next week. Senator Val Stevens and Representative Matt Shea are featured in the video making the case for Christian participation and activism in the R-71 signature gathering campaign's "Referendum Sunday(s)".

We want to make this DVD available along with additional R-71 petition packets as needed to as many churches around Washington State as possible! Will you help us with this endeavor? Costs for this project are substantial as we need the funds to pay for the DVDs, print more R-71 petitions, and continue to mail and/or hand deliver many hundreds of the R-71 petition packets to churches around the state.

Please encourage your Pastor to participate in the upcoming "Referendum Sunday(s), June 28, July 5, 12, and19.  We will post more information regarding this effort on the Protect Marriage Washington website early next week.

This will be a critical phase of the campaign and we are counting on this effort to put us over the top in our goal of reaching 120, 577 valid signatures. Please donate today to Protect Marriage Washington's "Referendum Sunday(s)" campaign!

Sincerely,

Larry Stickney, Manager
Protect Marriage Washington, R-71 campaign team

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
