Stop the Trojan Horse!

September 21, 2009 - Our friends at the National Organization of Marriage (NOM) sent out a chilling reminder of what can happen when same-sex marriage becomes the law of the land. In an e-mail I received last Friday, NOM wrote the following:

"In Canada we've seen a lot already: We've seen a Catholic bishop brought up on human-rights charges for posting Catholic doctrine on a Catholic website. We've seen litigation against a religious organization (the Knights of Columbus) for refusing to permit same-sex ceremonies in its halls. In Canada, an evangelical ministry which helps disabled adults was told by the government that it may not require its employees to live according to Christian moral teaching on sex--in fact, in a move reminiscent of George Orwell, these good people were ordered by the government to submit a re-education plan for all their employees."

Is this the future for Washington State too? Or will courageous men and women rise to the occasion and stop the Trojan horse and REJECT SB 5688 when voting on R-71?

My friends, the time has come, the time is now. With just 25 days until ballots are mailed out statewide and only 43 days until the November 3rd, we will win or lose this campaign depending on what happens in the next few weeks.

The battle for Washington is, literally, at our doorsteps; and the Protect Marriage Washington campaign team is now in overdrive as we make our case to the grassroots of Washington State.  We began our efforts to blanket the state with literature, yard signs and bumper stickers this weekend. While our flyers and signs already showing up in certain locations, many of you will receive your materials this week.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR DEFENDERS OF FAMILY, FAITH, AND FREEDOM TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT!

We have reports that pastors are very receptive to our flyer and gladly using them as appropriate bulletin inserts. This is great news as the sleeping giant, the churches of Washington State, is waking up to the very real threat that SB 5688/R-71 presents to our cherished religious freedoms!

Please let us know right away if you are willing to distribute literature in your church and/or precinct. Ask your pastor or priest to insert the flyer in your church bulletin. If ministers of the Christian faith will act now, we will win! Time is short and we must communicate the importance of this vote to people of faith all across Washington!

We have 100,000 pieces of literature ready for distribution. Additionally, we have ordered thousands of REJECT SB 5688/R-71 yard signs and we will blanket the state with these if funds come in. It is critical that we raise money for the yard signs right now. $1000 will buy nearly 500! Please wait no longer to give. The bulk of our campaign funds are coming from $25, $50 and $100 donations.

Just as an army will perish if it outruns its supply lines, so will a campaign die without adequate funding. Please, please give as generously as possible as we head down the stretch! We simply cannot win this battle without your help.

We have added some vital new information regarding the effect of domestic partnerships and same-sex marriage on public school curriculums. You can find this info in the "Talking Points" section of the Protect Marriage Washington website.

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
